Samsung Upping the Stakes in Convergence Devices
Upping the stakes in the hybrid device market is the American
arm of Samsung Electronics with the introduction of its SPH-1300
that adds a colorful twist to the marriage of the PDA and cell
phone. An 8-bit color display with a resolution of 160 x240 pushes
the added-value component one-step further.
Compact at less than five-inches in height and weighing less than
6 ounces, the SPH-1300 keeps its size down by featuring an onscreen
keypad instead of a push-button keypad. For text entry, a Graffiti
pad enables the user to access the familiar PDA applications. When
making a phone call, the Graffiti pad disappears and the numeric
keypad emerges for finger dialing, a stylus is not required. With
the speakerphone or standard headset, the user will be able to enter
information while chatting.
The SPH-1300 will not be available in the United States until
September of 2001.
