With the emergence

services will emerge attracting a worldwide user base of
748 million in less than three year, up from 78 million this year,
according to a report released by the ARC Group.
In its report ‘Wireless Computing and Personal Location

applications tailoring content to a user’s geographical location
will be the center piece of a service providers offering. In
addition, the report examines location-based services and data
applications in the following areas:
- Public Sector, covering E-911 and E-112 specifications
- Heath, exploring telehealth and telemedicine wireless data
systems
- Fleet/Freight, offering opportunities in sales & field
force automation and asset tracking
For manufacturers, operators and services providers, the report
offers insight into the following:
- Technologies supporting location-based services and wireless
connectivity and the applications they can offer
- Detailed forecasts and trends in wireless device and location
based service from 2001-2006
- Business models and strategies used by market players

MobileInfo Comments and Advisory: We
tend to agree that wireless-location services have a bright future.
especially in Telematics - an area that the report does not highlight.
However, initial ramp up will be slow but gradual. The challenge for
content and service providers is to stick to high-value applications
of immediate interest. Personalization, use of user-initiated pull and
selective use of advertising are other keys. If advertisers hijacks
this industry, there will be a backlash that will delay this
industry.
