To capture a share of the
British grocery market worth $95-billion, the U.K. supermarket chain
Waitrose has launched a home grocery delivery business called LM
Solutions that will implement a m-commerce solution from Versatile
Mobile Systems.
Start-up LM Solutions has licensed Versatile’s Delivery
Director mobile commerce solutions as well as enterprise server
software. Versatile will be responsible for implementing a wireless
WAN infrastructure thus enabling LM Solutions to track deliveries
wirelessly over the GSM network. The grocery delivery company hopes
that Versatile’s wireless solution will streamline their
operations, setting them apart from their competition.
Versatile, a Canadian-based company, expects to launch the first
phase later this year and will continue to work with LM Solutions
over the next three years expanding its network and services.

Versatile’s Enterprise Communications Server, developed in
Java, is a fault tolerant, clustered, load-balanced, OS independent
solution. In addition, Versatile’s software will be integrated
into the DeliveryNet solution from Descartes System Group.
"Versatile’s expertise in mobile commerce and experience
in the design of efficient tools for managing and tracking customer
deliveries were the deciding factors in our selection of Delivery
Director," said Roger Whiteside, joint managing director of LM
Solutions. "Versatile’s delivery solution with its ability to
track, log, and ensure perfect deliveries to our customers, will
help us set the standard for service convenience and quality,"
he added.
