Purple Software and Digital Bridges to Offer Wireless
Entertainment
Digital Bridges, an operator of network wireless
entertainment services, has entered into a strategic alliance with
British wireless games developer Purple Software to publish and
distribute its entertainment content to Digital’s network
operators around the world. Over 100 million mobile users registered
with operators such as Orange, T-Motion, Radiolinja and Vizzavi,
will be able to access Purple’s strategy games via their Symbian,
Palm or PocketPC device.
The first title to be developed by the British software developer
will be a version of its popular strategic broad game Chess on
Digital Bridge’s UNITY platform. Purple has built a reputation for
developing wireless entertainment applications based on artificial
intelligence and is now seeking a larger audience.
"We are delighted to be working with Digital Bridges, and to
be licensing Chess," said Julian Swallow, chief executive
officer and co-founder of Purple Software. "The strong
alliances Digital Bridges is building with network operators will
provide us with a valuable additional route to market. It is an
exciting time in the wireless gaming industry, and agreements such
as this will serve to offer the consumer a broader wireless gaming
experience."

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: MobileInfo agrees
with current industry viewpoint that entertainment might be one way
of increasing the usage of smart phones. Having said that, it is the
enterprise where the short term payoff is. The former (games and
entertainment) is easy to do and the latter (enterprise
applications) is far more difficult to do and sell. Take your pick
and plan accordingly. Who said that money comes easy?.
