JAMDAT Mobile Secures Funding from Sun Microsystems
The creator of the popular mobile game ‘Gladiator’ JAMDAT
Mobile announced that Sun Microsystems, Inc. has joined other
investors, including Patricof & Co. Ventures, Intel
Communications Fund, and QUALCOMM, in its second round of financing,
now totaling $12-million.
According to Neeraj Bharadwaj, principal, Patricof & Co.
Ventures, "The experience of JAMDAT’s management team
combined with the scalability and multi-user functionality of their
platform positions them well" in the wireless Internet gaming
market.
Commenting on Sun’s participation, CEO of JAMDAT Mobile Mitch
Lasky, said, "Sun Microsystems is an important partner for
JAMDAT in the mobile entertainment marketplace. Sun’s Java 2 Micro
Edition technology is a key development platform for wireless
devices worldwide. In addition, Sun’s carrier-grade server
technologies are a fundamental component of the wireless Internet
infrastructure."
In addition to the investment, JAMDAT and Sun Microsystems will
work together on technology initiatives related to the optimization,
provisioning, and monitoring of the next generation of mobile
entertainment applications.
The Los Angeles, C.A., mobile gaming company said the investment
will be used to expand its offering of middleware solutions.
Currently, it offers a fully-featured game development SDK, content
and session management solutions, user authentication and billing
integration, and advanced data mining and analysis.
