Handspring Introduces Blazer Web Browser
Betting that the future of handheld computing is linked to
fast and affordable wireless access to the Internet, Handspring,
Inc. has released a Web browser for Palm OS handhelds branded as
Blazer.
The Blazer browser will also be bundled with the Handspring VisorPhone
as part of its new Wireless Internet Access Suite. Besides the Web
browser, the Suite includes JP Mobile One-Touch Mail for
transmitting and managing e-mail and contacts; Yahoo! Messenger, an
instant messaging application, and Electronic Pocket’s BugMe!
Messenger, for sending and receiving handwritten notes or diagrams.
Palm-enabled handhelds incorporating the Blazer and a modem will
offer users the following:
- Fast access to any Internet site, not only those designed for
mobile access
- A rich Internet experience with access to colored graphics,
personalized content and bookmarks.
- Mobile QuickStart powered by MSN Mobile, providing one-touch
access to news, stock quotes and driving directions
- Search capabilities from Google
- A directory of mobile sites from third party developers
To ensure a full-Internet experience, the web browser supports
existing standards, optimizing HTML, WAP, and CHTML content for the
small screen. In addition, it supports access to secure Web sites
via encryption technology from Certicom. The Blazer runs on
handhelds that use Palm OS 3.1 or higher, including all models of
the Handspring Visor, Sony Clie, and Palm Series III, V, M100, and
M500.
