New York Cops Go Wireless to Fight Crime

NYPD is equipping cops with hand-held wireless computers that puts national criminal and motor vehicle data at their fingertips. The wireless devices look like a beeper with a miniature keyboard and can instantly access driver records, whether an auto has been reported stolen or if a person is wanted in a crime anywhere in the country.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: This application gives real-time information access to the police officers on the beat - a very useful implementation because the previous generation of public safety systems depended on the ruggedized computers installed in the cruiser to access driver or criminal record systems of local police jurisdictions.
