Ericsson to use Cambridge
Positions Systems Software
Cambridge Positioning Systems ( a UK-based company) has signed a commercial licensing
agreement with Ericsson. The agreement stipulates that its Cursor software will
be used in Ericsson's mobile position system. Cursor software is
based on the Enhanced Observed Time Difference system and delivers
mobile location technology that is accurate to within 50 meters on
GSM networks. Cambridge Positioning Systems said its system has
emerged as the preferred choice for GSM network carriers to meet
E911 regulations.
Earlier, CPS had signed an agreement with Nortel.

of E911 is important for public safety. It is unlikely FCC-mandate
deadline of October 2001 will be met in USA and other countries. The
big beneficiary of this FCC-imposed timetable would be
location-based wireless services which do add significant value to
experience of consumers when they are in the car or other public
places. The consumers need this information and would be willing to
pay for these services. Therefore, these services are expected
