FirePad and PALM Announce Latest Edition of Mobile Application Platform

FirePad, developer of advanced graphics applications for mobile devices, has announced the latest edition of its Mobile Application Platform.  Version 2.0 includes a client application for viewing images, vector graphics, videos and web pages on a Palm Computing platform device and a server for converting and delivering content to mobile users.  Firepad's technology enables users to instantly access a wide range of graphical content using a single, integrated browser.  It has been optimized so that even large images which would take several seconds to load on a powerful desktop PC can be viewed almost immediately on a device with a relatively slow processor and limited memory resources. The vendors claims sophisticated content manipulation technology.

Target Applications and Price - Download field service manuals to technicians in the field. Rule of thumb price for 10 user license is $3000.

Early Adopter Customer : Lockheed Martin Corporation - initially piloting it with six employees.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: Capability to see rich graphics, images and even slow-motion video on Palm devices is a good application.  When used in offline mode, it can be an efficient application.  However, these images will have to be moved to Palm devices through fixed location kiosks, fixed line synchronization devices, wireless LANs but not through wide area wireless networks.  Of course, Palm as it sits today is not the best platform for viewing images.
