Mobile Operators Turn to SmartTrust's Delivery Platform

With huge investments on the line, mobile operators worldwide are constantly in battle to attract new customers and , of course, to decrease churn.

Once again Sonera SmartTrust Ltd. has stepped forward to address their needs, this time with the launch of the SmartTrust Delivery Platform 5.1 ( DP5.1), which the company claims will open up further mobile e-service opportunities for mobile operators.

According to the company, the latest release builds on the advances made by its predecessors, enabling mobile operators to reduce the time to market for e-services, while increasing remote manageability of subscriber handsets, application performance, and security for mobile payments.

"Mobile operators are increasingly looking at ways to differentiate their services and open up new revenue streams, " said Tina Sarlin, product portfolio manager with Sonera SmartTrust. "DP 5.1 delivers greater opportunities to develop and commercialize mobile e-services, in the form of m-commerce, e-mail, information or other interactive services. With Delivery Platform, services are easily deployed into current generation GSM phones, including both WAP and SAT2+ ( SIM Application Toolkit)."

A Vote of Confidence
With nearly 60 mobile operators worldwide using the DP series, the SmartTrust Delivery Platform has received a vote of confidence from the likes of Australia's Virgin Mobile, Italy's Blu, and South Africa's MTN. According to Sarlin, since using the Delivery Platform, Blu, one of Italy's newest operators, has delivered truly value-added services and has seen its subscriber base grow from 300,000 to over one million. She added, "Using the Delivery Platform, the operator was able to address its complete subscriber-base via a menu-driven browser embedded within the handset's SIM card. This made the development and deployment of mobile e-services a completely scaleable and manageable process."

Features of Delivery Platform of 5.1

  • A Wireless Service Management interface to personalize services and download menus
  • Advanced SIM file handling speeds up the download of personalized menus and applications
  • New security plug-ins support asymmetric electronic signing and encryption allows for secure applications such as financial-services
