Noted for its public
safety wireless applications, such as Mobile Data Browser and Field
Reporting, HTE, Inc., based in Orlando, Florida, has recently
introduced Building Permits Wireless, the first in a series of
wireless solutions for public sector organizations.
Building Permits Wireless allows a building inspector using a
Palm device to tap into their organization’s information systems.
In the field, an inspector can easily access and update
information in real-time stored on the IBM iSeries running HTE's
latest wireless application. Building Permits Wireless enables the
organization to perform the following:
- Manage permit applications, structures specifications, and
permit information
- Track plans through the plan review process and handles all
facets of inspection processing
- Maintain comprehensive on-line records of its building and
permitting activity
According to HTE, the wireless application will eliminate the
time inspectors now spend traveling to the office to file reports as
well as increase accuracy, as it automatically updates the general
ledger accounts and processes payments for building fees and makes
corrections to payments processed. In addition, customers will also
save on hardware costs, since Palm devices are much less expensive
than laptop computers.
Overview of System Features
- User Defined Application and Permit Types:
Allows for the
configuration of different types of permits and reviews as well as
fee schedules
- Numerous Search Methods:
Retrieves an application or
permit using a variety of search capabilities
- Automatic Fee Calculations:
Defines permit fee
calculations using unit charges, validation, square footage, or
combination
- Maintenance Package Based on User ID:
Configures
individual screens for users to access according to their
geographical location
Building Permits is built on HTE's Message Switch technology,
which allows data transmitted over airwaves to communicate with
land-based systems and connects using cellular or CDPD networks. In
addition, Building Permits requires HTE’s land/parcel management
application, which is used to associate permits with property
records.
HTE’s developers are already working on wireless solutions for
utilities and work orders, according to Cristina Lindgren Shams with
HTE. "Building Permits is just the beginning," she added.
"This has opened the door for us to develop multiple wireless
applications across HTE’s product suite."
