RealPlayer and Symbian to Deliver
Wireless MultiMedia Experience
With more than 2 million registered
Web users worldwide, RealNetwork's RealPlayer® is now out to
attract a massive mobile audience. In March of this year it launched
its Mobile RealPlayer®, the mobile version of RealPlayer, fully
optimized for Symbian OS version 6.0 for the new Nokia 9210
Communicator, which is now available in Europe.
Recently, the company has teamed with Symbian to open up a new
class of mobile multimedia solutions for developers using the
Symbian operating system.
"The impact of Symbian OS and RealPlayer Mobile goes well
beyond simply delivering a great audio/video user experience — the
combination provides the foundation for establishing business models
of mobile media as a whole, including subscription services and
secure music delivery," said Mark Bretl, vice president,
RealNetworks. He added, "This is the industry's first
substantial step enabling media services to mobile phones and it
offers customers a dramatic new dimension in mobile communication.
"
RealNetwork’s Mobile Product Line
Mobile RealPlayer supports the download of local playback of
RealAudio and RealVideo; for example, users of the Nokia
Communicator can download and playback their favorite Internet media
from breaking news to sporting events.
RealSystem® iQ provides a universal architecture for the
delivery of digital media over the Internet — from any platform to
any mobile device. It is ideal for small broadcasters, media
developers, ISPs, and enterprises, especially those that are
considering delivering future applications such as broadcasting to
wireless devices.
In addition, RealNetworks has become a member of Symbian
Technology Partner Program that will enable it to further develop
Symbian based technologies and to engage in co-marketing campaigns.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: It is good to see
convergence of multimedia and handheld devices. Can we suggest to
Real Players to go beyond Symbian to PalmOS and Pocket PC? Have you
done that already?
