iAnywhere’s MobileBuilder Accelerates Time to Market

iAnywhere Solutions, a subsidiary of Sybase Inc., and PenRight are now providing developers an application development tool for rapid cross-platform development — MobileBuilder 2.0 — that promises to reduce time to market and save costs.

From a single application design, developers can quickly and easily develop database applications for Palm, Windows CE, and other handheld platforms. To provide data management and enterprise synchronization, SQL Anywhere® Studio along with MobileBuilder 2.0 will enable applications to be built that can synchronize data from a handheld device directly to Sybase, Oracle, or Microsoft enterprise databases.

According to the companies, this integrated solution has been made seamless through a custom global component, which integrates a complete SQL relation database engine into any Palm OS, Windows CE, Windows 32/16, or MS-DOS base MobileBuilder application design.

Key Features of the MobileBuilder

  • Easy-to-use integrated development environment for faster, easier and more intuitive development
  • Platform support for creation of applications for Palm OS, Windows CE, PocketPC, Windows NT, 98, 95, and MS-DOS from a single code base
  • Code Assistant for the automatic insertion of a proper application code into project designs

Key features of SQL Anywhere

  • Small footprint, full-featured DBMS
  • Enterprise synchronization for mobile and remote systems
  • Multi-Platform support
  • Reliable and easy to use

In addition, SQL Anywhere UltraLite is an optional development tool designed to minimize memory and system requirements of database applications for in-memory devices such as handhelds, smart phones, intelligent devices, according to the companies.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: The two companies have been working together for sometime now. We do think that MobileBuilder is a good platform in its space.
