A growing concern among
law enforcement agencies is how their staff interacts with the
public, specifically when profiling and reporting encounters.
To assist police in spotting troubling trends before they reflect
on the integrity of their agency, Aether Systems has introduced
StopTracker™, a wireless solution for the collecting, reporting,
and analyzing of data related to police-citizen contacts.
Randolph McLaughlin, civil-rights attorney and director of the
Social Justice Center at Pace University Law School remarked,
"I believe this technology provides an invaluable tool for
accurate reporting of all police-citizen contacts, which is the
foundation for effectively responding to community concerns about
racial profiling."
Features of StopTracker
Data Collection: A mobile application for the collection and
analysis of data recorded during traffic stops and field interviews.
Types of Data: Officers can quickly record an individual’s
race, gender, age, reason for the stop, type of contact made,
vehicle search information, and any property seized.
Track Performance: Command personnel can work with the data
to track and audit the performance of their staff.
Prepare Reports: Agencies can produce both standard and
customized reports, charts, and graphs that represent officers,
units, shifts, and patrol areas, which may include enforcement
categories such as stop, search, and seizure.
Laptop Version: For officers using the application wirelessly
on a laptop from their patrol car, Aether's API Audit allows data to
be collected and then exported to the backend database for analysis.
Palm Version: When wireless coverage is limited, the
application can be used on a Palm Vx. Officers can input contact
information while on duty and then easily export the data to the
agency's central database via the Palm Vx's HotSync® function at
the end of the shift
The handheld and laptop versions of StopTracker will be
integrated with Aether’s PacketCluster®, a wireless information
software product that provides officers with access to motor vehicle
and warrant information. Currently customers are beta testing both
versions, and Aether expects to make them available in September.
