Casio Agrees To Make Multi-Million dollar investment In iAnywhere Solutions To Boost Mobile and Wireless Development

Companies to Drive Market for Windows CE-based m-Business Solutions

Emeryville, CA-July 9, 2001-iAnywhere Solutions, Inc., the market leading mobile and wireless subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), today announced that Casio Computer Co., Ltd., one of the world's leading consumer electronics companies, has agreed to invest $5 million in the company's convertible preferred stock.

Casio's investment, which is expected to fund within the next 30 days, will allow iAnywhere Solutions to extend its mobile and wireless application development efforts to drive the market for m-Business solutions. Today's announcement underscores an already strong strategic relationship between the companies that is focused on enabling solutions for iAnywhere Solutions' m-Business platform and Casio's Windows CE-business handheld devices. "We are excited by Casio's agreement to invest in iAnywhere Solutions, since Casio's brand recognition and global reach both validate and enhance
iAnywhere Solutions' m-Business leadership," said Terry Stepien, president of iAnywhere Solutions. "As Casio deepens its commitment to enabling mobile solutions for enterprise customers, iAnywhere Solutions will be there alongside them helping to grow market share."

"Casio's investment in iAnywhere Solutions will mark a significant milestone in Sybase's ongoing strategy to team with industry leaders to boost our presence in high growth markets, such as mobile and wireless
computing, e-Business portals, and vertical solutions," added John Chen, chairman, president and CEO of Sybase, Inc. "Anytime a worldwide leader partners with a Sybase company, it bolsters the image and value of that company and Sybase as a whole."

"To further extend our leadership in the rapidly expanding market for mobile business devices, Casio is making aggressive efforts to expand its Mobile Network Solutions business by both developing devices with competitive features and pursuing strategic alliances with key industry players," remarked Kazuo Kashio, president of Casio Computer Co., Ltd. "Last year, Casio formed a global strategic alliance with mobile database leader iAnywhere Solutions, Inc. The investment announced today further solidifies
this relationship and strengthens our market position in the mobile and wireless enterprise markets. We expect the relationship with iAnywhere Solutions to provide significant new benefits for our customers."
"The iAnywhere Solutions initiative will allow Casio to provide robust mobile database applications uniquely tailored to a wide variety of our mobile devices. Working in partnership with iAnywhere Solutions, Casio can provide our enterprise customers with secure, wireless connectivity and mobile applications that will improve mobile productivity for both large and small companies," said Gary Rado, president of Casio, Inc.  iAnywhere Solutions and Casio: Extending a Successful Relationship The companies already enjoy a successful relationship in jointly marketing and delivering m-Business solutions worldwide, targeting markets such as financial services, healthcare, sales force automation (SFA) and field force
automation (FFA). Casio embeds iAnywhere Solutions' market-leading mobile database and enterprise synchronization technology, SQL Anywhere Studio, on Casio's business handheld devices such as the Cassiopeia EG-800 and IT-70/IT-700. iAnywhere Solutions is also developing applications targeting
Casio devices based on iAnywhere m-Business Studio, a comprehensive, integrated software package for extending the reach of e-Business applications, enterprise data and Internet content to mobile and wireless devices.

The companies' joint technology will be used to power a wireless golf scoring application at the Sybase Big Apple Classic Celebrity Pro-Am Tournament on July 16, 2001. "Our clients in telecommunications, healthcare and m-commerce are demanding the ability to extend their enterprises beyond the walls of the
corporation," said Joe Cardinale, general manager, Web & Wireless Solutions at Teoco Corporation, a Fairfax, VA-based systems integrator. "We feel that the combination of iAnywhere Solutions' powerful mobile and wireless technology with the innovative Cassiopeia handheld devices provides an ideal
platform to power a variety of applications ? from equipment maintenance to field force automation."

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: We see this will benefit Casio more than its investment in iAnywhere because Casio has a poor showing in the enterprise space.
