Extended Systems and iAnywhere Enhance Enterprise Productivity
As one door closes,
another one opens for mobile management company Extended Systems.
Palm Inc. did not proceed with its acquisition of Extended Systems. The company has formed a strategic alliance with iAnywhere
Solutions, Inc. following the collapse of its acquisition by Palm
earlier this year.
iAnywhere, a subsidiary of Sybase Corp., has agreed to use
Extended Systems’ mobile data management technology. It's
synchronization software XTNDConnect will be integrated with
iAnywhere’s m-Business platform, enabling users of Symbian, Palm,
and Windows CE devices to wirelessly synchronize e-mail and PIM data
from such groupware systems as Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange.
Under the terms of the agreement, iAnywhere Solutions will
license and sell Extended Systems' XTNDConnect Server email and PIM
synchronization and management software.
"As organizations continue to deploy mobile and wireless
solutions, we're seeing increased demand for mobile access to both
groupware and traditional line of business applications," said
Terry Stepien, president, iAnywhere Solutions. Extended Systems'
technology complements and further extends iAnywhere’s m-Business
platform, he added.
"This agreement strengthens both companies’ positions and
offers up an exceptional mobile and wireless solution to the
enterprise," said Steve Simpson, CEO of Extended Systems.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: This
is a good partnership. We like iAnywhere's strategy of spending their
capital and human resources on development portion of the mobile
solution and licensing best-of-breed components from other vendors who
have greater expertise and strength in these areas. We are talking
about using Broadbeam's communications middleware and using Extended
Systems' synchronization software. We find both companies are
technologically and philosophically (business-wise) compatible and not
walking on each other's toes - truly synergistic.
