Carriers Test Telephia’s Quality-of-Service Measurement System
Wireless information
service provider Telephia has announced that four carriers are
currently testing its new monitoring system that will help them
manage the performance of data networks and applications services.
The Wireless Data Network and Application Performance (Wireless
DNA Performance) solution is being promoted as the first continuous,
wireless data quality-of-service measurement system that examines
and evaluates network performance from the end-user's perspective.
Developed in partnership with Openwave Systems and Inverix, the
service is designed for carriers, content providers, m-commerce
companies, application service providers, and enterprises with
wireless data solutions. Wireless DNA Performance collects key
performance metrics on all applications (WAP, SMS, PQA, HTML),
carriers network technologies, and mobile devices.
Based on their specific needs, customers can customize their
program by choosing from the selection of applications to be
measured, the markets and networks from which to take measurements,
and the frequency of measurement. The system delivers performance
data updates every 15 minutes, which the customer can view at any
time online.
According to Telephia, the service offers customers insight into
performance problems that often result in failed transactions and
loss of revenues.
Currently, the service is available in selected North American
markets and will be launched in Europe by the end of the year.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: We
are glad to see somebody address this requirement from an enduser
perspective. This will help enterprises ask for service level
agreements that specify response and transit times for various web
transactions on wireless networks. It will put real systems
engineering design expertise at work in public networks. It is
not easy but it is a good start. Watch out service providers. Well
done, Telephia! Now we can put some numbers behind those complaints.
