Excel Utilizes Palm VII Handhelds To Wirelessly Collect and
Access Data
Excel Energy Technologies,
Ltd. has announced the development of an application that provides
remote access to data collected by ExcelSyus energy optimization
technology. The application supports Excel's wireless ExcelSyus ‘Listener’
running on Palm VII handhelds, enabling utility,
commercial and industrial companies to monitor temperatures,
lighting use, energy consumption within their facilities.
The ‘Listener’ is a wireless low-rate data logging system
that easily connects to any Internet- enabled PC, telephone modem,
or the ExcelSyus ‘M’. The Listener receives and logs data and
status information from up to 90 temperature sensors, light sensors,
pulse monitors, repeaters, and other future devices. Collected
data is time-stamped and logged when received, which can then be
sent via the Internet or a modem to an Excel Web server.
Property owners and their managers can access data over the
Internet, via a password protected site, or on the Palm VII handheld
connected to the Palm.Net's service. They can view up-to-the-minute
data and operational alarms, including rolling blackouts and peak
load curtailments, in as little as one-minute intervals.
The Tulsa, Oklahoma-based company says that collecting,
monitoring and quickly acting upon changing conditions allows their
customers to improve efficiencies and save money.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: This
is a useful application that does move Palm into the enterprise
application space. Value is in the information collection system and
access by handheld device is no-brainer - be it Palm or iPaq -
whichever device the user wants. In fact, we would urge Excel to
extend its device support beyond Palm.
