Itronix’s Ruggedized Notebook Delivers Integrated Wireless LAN Capabilities

Building on the popularity of its GoBook notebook, Itronix Corporation, subsidiary of Acterna Corp., announced the availability of an integrated, 802.11b Wireless Local Area Network option for its ruggedized notebook.

Wi-Fi connectivity is provided by Cisco Aironet 350 Series of 802.11b WLAN products promising to deliver a data transmission rate of up to 11Mbps and 100mW transmission power.

Commenting on GoBook’s new option, Jeff Gibbons, vice president of marketing for Itronix, said its new WLAN-enabled GoBook is ideal for "organizations needing fast, secure wireless networking in any rugged field situation. Our integrated dipole antenna technology, when combined with Cisco Aironet, results in coverage ranges and performance not achievable with other WLAN solutions."

Ubiquitous Wireless WAN coverage
Washington-based Itronix has also partnered with Wireless Matrix Corporation to support the Wireless Matrix Mobile Based Solution (MBS). According to the Itronix, the solution enables wireless, wide-area data coverage by combining satellite and terrestrial data networks for coverage throughout North America. GoBooks will be linked to vehicle-mounted MBSs via WLANs to provide remote workers wide-area connectivity, up to several hundred feet from the vehicle, even from deep within neighboring buildings, Itronix said.

"Our integrated WLAN technology is specifically engineered for outdoor applications like the MBS where the area of coverage is large and not well defined, or when access point deployment is difficult," said David Johnson, wireless products manager at Itronix. "Vehicle service yards, military or commercial flight lines, and mobile emergency management outposts are just a few examples where our wireless LAN technology can provide essential connectivity."
