NEXIQ and Fonix to Deliver Telematics Solutions
To capitalize on the potentially lucrative
<telematics> market, estimated to be worth $41-billion worldwide by 2010, NEXIQ Technologies, Inc., a provider of telematics products, has entered into a joint telematics venture with Fonix Corp, a provider of natural language interfaces for wireless and mobile devices.
NEXIQ will integrate Fonix technologies and products, such as Text-To-Speech (TTS) and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), into NEXIQ's In-Vehicle-Information (IVIS). Providing the software framework, IVIS enables vehicle manufacturers to develop, integrate, test, and maintain on-board information and display systems. In addition, it has the ability to manage how information is viewed in the vehicle. It can also use information from various vehicle components as well as from voice, text, and navigation applications to accurately deliver real-time information to the driver.
"We expect Fonix voice solutions, including our natural-sounding TTS and our highly accurate ASR, which integrates seamlessly with NEXIQ's IVIS framework, will provide auto manufacturers and suppliers with the tools that they need to meet today's consumer demands," said Kurt Flygare, Fonix's vice president of sales.
