ACQUISITIONS, MERGERS & AGREEMENTS

Wayport Expands Portfolio of Wireless LAN Hotspots

Having built a portfolio comprising of over 400 hotel and airport wireless LAN hotspots, Wayport Inc. of Austin, Texas, said it has acquired nine Laptop Lane locations.

These high-profile Laptop Lane business centers will join Wayport’s four existing airport locations, including Dallas-Fort Worth International and San Jose International, expanding its airport footprint and lineup of airport business services.

To be branded under the Wayport name, these business centers will provide business travelers with critical on-site business services, including private offices and meeting rooms equipped with high-speed Internet connectivity at speeds of up to 50 times faster than standard modems, the company said. In addition, business travelers will be able to take advantage of such services as long distance and conference calling, printer, fax and copier access as well as overnight packaging and shipping.

"The Laptop Lane Business Centers we've chosen to acquire are in some of the world's busiest airports. And, because they are in a high traffic, convenient locations with a strong business model already in place, this is a perfect fit to our strategy, " said Dave Vucina, CEO of Wayport.

Under the terms agreement, Wayport will acquire the following Laptop Lane locations:

  • Three at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport
  • Two at Chicago O'Hare International Airport
  • One at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport
  • One at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
  • One at New York's LaGuardia International Airport
  • One at Salt Lake City International Airport

Upon completion of the acquisition, Wayport will provide services at 11 airports locations within eight major-market airports, the company said.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: There is still a lot of room to increase the penetration of hotspots in airports and other public places. We expect this trend to continue and provide value to active travelers and business professionals.
