BlackBerry Users to Get Mobile Printing from HP
Research in Motion, Inc.,
has partnered with electronic printing expert Hewlett Packard to
bring mobile printing functions to its BlackBerry handhelds. The two
companies will offer a software program that allows BlackBerry users
to print e-mail and e-mail attachments on network printers. Mobile
professionals will no longer have to struggle to read long e-mails.
With the program, users will be able to read and print e-mails in
virtually any format including Microsoft Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, and JPEG.
The initial application, called the HP Mobile Enterprise
Printing, is expected to be available in early 2002.
Commenting on the partnership, Mike Lazarisis, president and
co-chief executive officer of RIM, said, "HP and RIM are
committed to creating wireless printing solutions that extend the
functionality of the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld. The combination
of BlackBerry’s always-on wireless data and the HP Mobile
Enterprise Printing application creates a powerful tool that will
help mobile professionals fully use the information they receive
while away from their desks."
In a related announcement, Onset Technology said that its
printing solution for the BlackBerry is now being used by two U.S.
law firms.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: There
are times when you do want to print e-mails and if you can do that
when you are away from your office at the nearest printer, it is
good convenience. Te devil is in telling the network which printer
to print on the Intranet.
