Maporama and SignalSoft to Offer
Location-Based Services to Operators
French Internet mapping service
Maporama said that it is working with SignalSoft, a wireless
location service provider, to offer location-based services to
wireless operators. Maporama is now a member of SignalSoft’s
local.info Alliance program, which provides over 200 content,
application and service providers the opportunity to expand their
services to the wireless market.
The combination of Maporama’s cartographic database containing
over 635,000 cities worldwide with SignalSoft’s Wireless Location
Services software suite will provide not only retail outlets,
franchises, and chains the means of attracting potential customers,
but also wireless operators value-added services to offer their
subscribers. For example, a wireless subscriber could search for and
select a theater in their immediate vicinity and in turn be provided
with detailed directions to and any special promotional offers from
that particular entertainment establishment.
"Teaming with Maporama allows us to provide carriers with
innovative location-based services," said Eric McCabe, vice
president of marketing for SignalSoft.
Wireless operators are benefiting from the program, SignalSoft
said, as they now have the ability to extend personalized, useful
and convenient services to their subscribers, greatly enhancing the
user experience.

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: You
need two basic capabilities for location-based services - GIS-type
mapping information database and of course, location-specific
content distribution engine. The two partners provide these unique
expertise - therefore, it is a good partnership. It extends
SignalSoft's reach into European location-specific services market.
