PDA maker Handspring is determined to position itself squarely in
the enterprise data market. Following agreements with Aether Systems,
AvantGo, and Wireless Knowledge, the company has added wireless data
and applications provider Infowave to its growing list of wireless
enterprise vendors.
The agreement will see the pairing of Handspring’s recently
released Treo handheld as well as its Visor product line and
Springboard expansion modules with Infowave’s Wireless Business
Engine to enable wireless assess to enterprise data, including e-mail
and client/server applications. In addition, the two companies have
agreed to jointly evaluate, test and market current and future
products.
"As businesses look to increase effectiveness and keep costs
down they are finding that handheld computers and communicators can
help," said Bobbi Burns, acting director of strategic alliances
for Handspring. Handspring/Infowave solutions offer a combination of
powerful devices, reliable and secure software, and the people who can
manage the integration process, Burns added.
Handspring/Infowave Wireless Data Solutions
Enterprise Data: Mobile professional can easily access e-mail
and collaboration tools, corporate intranets, the Internet,
Web-enabled and client/server applications.
Messaging: Using Treo’s built-in short messaging service
application and Infowave’s Symmetry desktop software, mobile users
will be able to send and receive corporate e-mail with the push of a
button, while SMS-messaging will allow mobile wireless customers to
send and receive short-text messages.
Customized Capabilities: Enterprises can tailor Infowave’s
Wireless Business Engine to include the specific capabilities to meet
their needs by switching to Infowave Exchange Connector, Infowave Web
Connector or Infowave Open Application Connector.
