Meridea Financial Software
Nokia along with three other companies, from such diverse fields as finance and consultancy, have established a joint venture to develop solutions for the financial services industry.
Meridea Financial Software combines the expertise of its founders — 3i, Accenture, Nokia and Sampo — to provide next-generation software for delivering consumer financial services through interactive television, mobile voice, mobile data, and traditional Web channels. "Meridea’s strategy is to build mobile transaction applications on open standards," with emphasis on "user-friendliness and multiple channel access," said Sari Baldauf, president of Nokia Networks.
Meridea will benefit from Nokia’s expertise in mobile Internet and will develop its first applications for Nokia’s 7650 mobile phone.
Financial institutions will be attracted to the company’s "concept of offering a more cost-effective and less risky development path compared to the more traditional way of developing services," said Esa Tihilä, CEO of
Meridea.
Tapping into a high growth area such as "consumer driven
content demand" coupled with a committed management team and
strong founding partners, "Meridea has an excellent starting
point for success," explained Jarkko Virtanen, investment
director for 3i Finland Oy.
