Symbian OS Ported to Intel StrongARM Apps. Processor

Symbian has announced the port of Symbian OS v6.1 to the Intel StrongARM SA-1110 applications processor.

The Intel SA -1110, operating at 206 MHz, will enable the next generation of Symbian OS- powered devices to run rich multimedia applications as 2.5G networks become widely available.

The port will enable "developers to rapidly bring to market targeted applications for ‘always-on’ Symbian OS phones," said Gilles Allain, vice president of account management and partnerships, Symbian.

Mark Cassey, director of marketing for Intel Handheld Computing Division, concurs: "Wireless and handheld manufacturers that are using the Intel SA-1110 can now utilize the optimized Symbian and Intel technology to take advantage of the resulting performance increase while decreasing power consumption in their systems."
