Thin Multimedia Lands Second Korean Operator
Thin Multimedia
has announced that Korean operator LG Telecom has selected its
technology to deliver multimedia content to its 4.5 million wireless
subscribers. Last July, SK Telecom, Korea’s largest CDMA operator,
teamed with Thin Multimedia to launch n.TOP Multimedia, a
decoder-based multimedia wireless service.
The San Jose, California, company’s server system and player
application offers subscribers multimedia e-mail, animation, music,
television, and movies. The core technology behind its products is
TCM-2, a proprietary encoding/decoding algorithm that requires
significantly less processing on mobile phones than competing
technologies that are usually variations of MPEG, the company said.
Dr. Se Yong Noh, vice president, Wireless Internet Division of LG
Telecom, said, "Thin Multimedia’s solutions [will] enable us
to deploy rich wireless media immediately, without having to wait
for 3G infrastructure. It took less than one month to port
ThinPlayer to our popular handset models. Within the next few
months, subscribers will receive streaming video via our current
[CDMA2000 1x] network."
