Bright Future for Wireless
Industry, study says
After traveling a rocky road last
year, the wireless telecommunication industry can expect a less
turbulent ride this year, according to The Strategis Group.
The Washington, D.C.- based telecommunications research firm sees
dramatic market shifts in global telecommunications markets in 2002
and beyond, paving the way for a brighter future.
"The long-awaited arrival of next-generation technologies
and services is expected to drive growth in markets for consumer and
enterprise users of mobile devices and applications in the U.S. and
abroad," said Scott Chas, president and CEO of The Strategis
Group.
Predictions for 2002 and Beyond
- One-third of the global population will have a wireless device
by 2008.
- Availability and competitive pricing of next-generation devices
will drive the demand for high-speed wireless devices and
applications.
- Expansion of wireless LANs in public hot spots, including
airports and college campuses, will see more users become
dependent on ubiquitous access to mobile data.
- The reduced costs of implementing telematics systems will fuel
consumer demand.
