Hospital Pharmacists Go Wireless Thanks to Aether Systems

Aether Systems, Inc. has announced that HealthProLink, a mobile data solutions provider for the healthcare sector, has deployed the synchronization and device management components of Aether Fusion.

Aether Fusion is a comprehensive wireless foundation comprised of a host of wireless technology components, which can extend business applications wirelessly to any handheld device over any wireless network. It is fully extensible and is built to scale for existing and future requirements.

Since June of last year, the HealthProLink System has been implemented in 20 health systems, enabling over 400 hospital pharmacists to wirelessly access clinical tools, and information and standardized reporting.

For example, hospital pharmacists at John Hopkins Children Center in Baltimore and Providence Health System in Portland can use PDAs to access updated clinical data from HealthProLink’s server, including therapeutic exchange guidelines and cost comparisons on prescription drugs.

The wireless devices makes it easy for pharmacists and healthcare professionals to access documentation on clinical interventions, medication errors and adverse drug reactions, said Terry Gibbons, CEO of HealthProLink, thus eliminating streams of paperwork.

In addition, the system enables administrators to manage and monitor the devices and mobile applications used by the pharmacists.

There will be definite productivity and cost saving advantages to implementing the system, said Rick Shali, Regional Director of Pharmacy Services of Providence Portland. "Our pharmacists will be able to improve their productivity by using the HealthProLink System because of the ready access to powerful clinical tools and fast and easy documentation." He added the system will also provide "clinical managers with standardized reporting on the pharmacists’ performance on a system-wide basis."

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory:  Healthcare industry can benefit a great deal from deploying mobile/wireless solutions. HealthProLink seems to have domain expertise in healthcare. To us, real intelligence of the application is in the backend. Handheld devices make it economical to use this applications and Aether's Fusion software is purely an enabler for keeping data synchronized.
