Sierra Wireless GPRS Modem Gets
the Nod from FCC
Sierra Wireless has
announced that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and
Canada’s Industry Canada have approved the sale of its GPRS
wireless modem.
The Sierra Wireless AirCard 710 is a single band GPRS PC Card for
access to North American GSM and GPRS networks such as AT&T
Wireless and Voicestream. With the PC card, mobile users can access
e-mail and the Internet at speeds up to 56 kbps.
For laptops and handhelds with PC card slots, the AirCard will
eliminate the need for a landline or cellular phone connection,
making it as easy to connect to the Internet or corporate network on
the road as it is sitting at one’s desk, the company said.
The company’s vice president Mark McMillan sees these approvals
as an important milestone, especially, as Sierra Wireless continues
to introduce its new line of GPRS products into the global
marketplace.
