Attention Operators: SIM-Enabled
Application to Simplify Value-Added Services
SIM solutions provider Bluefish has entered into an agreement with
software service provider VIPMobile to jointly deliver Mobile WriteUp,
a SIM-enabled application and platform to allow network operators to
deliver a range of value-added services to subscribers.
Mobile WriteUP will allow GSM operators to take advantage of the
growth in wireless messaging to deliver rich content to mobile
customers using existing handsets, the companies said.
By way of a simple change of their SIM card, subscribers can create
and access Mobile WriteUP sites, access rich content, directories and
links, as well as buy or sell products and services.
The SIM-enabled application allows network operators to leverage
their existing messaging technology to deliver unlimited and
affordable content to their subscribers.
The Mobile WriteUp application functionality is delivered courtesy
of the software residing on the SIM card. Bluefish said it has taken
the standard SmartTrust WIB (Wireless Internet Browser) and extended
its functionality with a series of plug-ins.
Field trials will commence in the first quarter of this year with
carrier customers in Southeast Asia, said Wendy Pizarro, director of
Marketing at VIPMobile.

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: There
is still some life in SIM-powered handsets of the current generation. In
so far as Mobile WriteUp enhances their functionality with plug-ins, it
provides a platform for providing enhanced services at affordable
network prices. However, in future, we can see extensive use of this
type of platform for a number of applications.
