E-Rex and Valcom Announce
Dragonfly Prototypes
E-Rex, Inc. and Valcom Ltd. have
announced that prototypes of the new Dragonfly Information &
Document Management Appliance are on target for beta testing
starting at the end of March.
Engineers from Miami-based E-Rex paid a visit to Valcom’s
Canadian development facility in Guelph, Ontario, to discuss and
finalize production arrangements with the development team, the
companies said. "Our engineers have made tremendous progress on
the Dragonfly," said Paul MacPherson, Valcom’s president,
"and we are confident we will be able to deliver these units on
time."
The Dragonfly is described as a portable, multi-function Internet
and document management appliance, which is ideal for the mobile
professional wanting their entire office at their fingertips while
on the road. The Dragonfly serves as a printer, copier, fax,
scanner, and provides Internet connectivity for sending and
receiving e-mails and browsing the Web. In addition, the appliance
can be used as a peripheral device by connecting it to a laptop or
desktop.
"Once potential partners see the Dragonfly," remarked
Carl Dilley, E-Rex’s president, "we are confident that they
will agree it has an incredible potential for success."
In May, the Dragonfly will be on display at the Planet PDA event
in Boston, Massachusetts, so "potential partners" will
have an opportunity to judge for themselves.

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: Dragonfly
will have a niche market - not everybody will go for a less-functional
printing and faxing. Nonetheless, we can see some potential for
certain applications.
