Wireless Security Trial Underway at a Scandinavian Airport

Developer of tracking technology BlueTags is working with Red-M to trial a wireless airport security system using Bluetooth technology. The trial is presently underway at Billund Airport, which is Denmark’s second largest airport.

The security system depends on Red-M’s Genos wirelessware communicating with BlueTag’s tracking technology to identify and monitor passengers from the moment they arrive at the airport until their flight departs, the companies said.

Red-M’s Genos wirelessware technology "allows seamless mobile access to data," and its management features "make it ideal for applications such as this where a secure network is of paramount importance," said Simon Gawne, vice president and co-founder of Red-M.

The Trial
After having submitted personal information to an airport membership database, business and frequent travelers were given digital identification tags supplied by BlueTags. With these tags, travelers can avoid traditional security checks; for example, upon arriving at the security check, each traveler’s personal information, including passport information, photograph, fingerprints or iris scan appears on the screen in front of the security officer, who can quickly assess the identity of individual.

Commenting on the benefits of the trial, Joergen Krab Joergensen, CEO of Billund Airport, said, "This trial has the potential to deliver tremendous value in terms of time savings for our customers without compromising safety."
