The GSM Association Announces
Nominations for 2002
The GSM Association has
announced the nominations for the GSM Awards for 2002.
With over 300 entries, "the panel was faced with some tough
decisions," said Mike Hibberd, editor of Mobile Communications
International, "the technology behind wireless is evolving . .
. and this was well represented in the entries."
The winners will be announced at the Association’s Awards Gala
on February 19th in Cannes, during the 3GSM World
Congress 2002.
New categories for this year including: technology innovation in
both handset and infrastructure product development; applications
and services for consumer and corporate markets; best application
developer; best marketing campaign, and the wireless accessibility
award.

Best Wireless Handset/Terminal or Handheld Device
- Handspring’s Treo Communicator
- NTT DoCoMo’s FOMA device
- Pogo Technology’s Pogo
Best Corporate Wireless Application or Service
- Britain’s O2, for ‘Blackberry from O2’
- Taiwan’s Far EasTone Telecommunications Co., for ‘Fleet
Management’
- Sonera Corporation of Finland, for ‘Versatile mobile data
services’
- Telstra Corporation/interWAVE Communications, Australia /USA,
for ‘interWAVE’s Wireless Office Solution’
