Palm and XcelleNet to Offer
Management Solution For the Palm i705
Palm has signed a memorandum
of understanding with XcelleNet, a provider of management solutions
for distributed enterprises, to work together to deliver management
solutions deployed on its new wireless device, the Palm
i705. Partnering with XcelleNet will further Palm’s
enterprise strategy, as it affirms its presence within the corporate
community.
With XcelleNet’s solution, IT administrators have centralized
control over enterprises devices, branch office systems on the WAN,
and PCs running on the LAN.
"Pairing the new Palm i705 Wireless Messaging Solution with
XcelleNet would make a powerful enterprise solution," said Joan
Herbig, CEO of XcelleNet.
She continued, "Companies would have the tools to take
control of these highly mobile devices and the data they contain
while empowering end users with business information wherever they’re
working."

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: This
partnership is good for both companies. i705 had to have basic client
asset management functionality so that it can accept software updates
and respond to management queries from the central site. It does put
i705 in the enterprise device class from management control perspective.
