Retail Pharmacy Turns to Symbol to
Enhance In-Store Productivity
The largest American retail
pharmacy CVS Corporation has selected Symbol Technologies’
wireless LAN infrastructure to enhance in-store productivity.
Symbol will deploy its Spectrum24 High Rate Wi-Fi wireless LAN
throughout 4,100 CVS stores across the country. Using the new Symbol
PDT 6840 handheld computers, store personnel will be able to perform
a variety of in-store applications, including direct store delivery,
price management, inventory control, and receiving.
Symbol’s high-speed wireless solution promises faster transfer
rates, increased productivity and performance, overall reduced costs
and maximized customer service.

Symbol Spectrum24 High Rate Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless LAN
- Dynamic Rate Scaling for Reliable Data Throughput
Dynamic Rate Scaling, as
defined by the IEEE 802.11b High Rate standard, always seeks to
connect at 11 Mbps, then automatically scales – if network
traffic demands – to 5.5, 2, or 1 Mbps for increased signal
range.
- WEP Encryption for High-Speed Security
Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encryption combined with
access control lists and domain identification features provide
powerful user authentication and data encryption and decryption
capabilities for data security.
- Mobile IP: Advanced Mobility for Seamless Roaming
Symbol's Spectrum24 High Rate Access Point supports mobile
IP functionality, allowing seamless roaming across routers.
