The largest American retail pharmacy CVS Corporation has selected Symbol Technologies’ wireless LAN infrastructure to enhance in-store productivity.

Symbol will deploy its Spectrum24 High Rate Wi-Fi wireless LAN throughout 4,100 CVS stores across the country. Using the new Symbol PDT 6840 handheld computers, store personnel will be able to perform a variety of in-store applications, including direct store delivery, price management, inventory control, and receiving.

Symbol’s high-speed wireless solution promises faster transfer rates, increased productivity and performance, overall reduced costs and maximized customer service.

Components of Symbol’s High-Speed Wireless Solution
Symbol Spectrum24 High Rate Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless LAN

      • Dynamic Rate Scaling for Reliable Data Throughput
Dynamic Rate Scaling, as defined by the IEEE 802.11b High Rate standard, always seeks to connect at 11 Mbps, then automatically scales – if network traffic demands – to 5.5, 2, or 1 Mbps for increased signal range.
      • WEP Encryption for High-Speed Security
Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encryption combined with access control lists and domain identification features provide powerful user authentication and data encryption and decryption capabilities for data security.
      • Mobile IP: Advanced Mobility for Seamless Roaming
Symbol's Spectrum24 High Rate Access Point supports mobile IP functionality, allowing seamless roaming across routers.
