Tank Truck Carrier Turns to Aether Systems for Mobile Messaging Service
Aether Systems said Hahn Transportation, a tank truck carrier, has selected its wireless communications systems, MobileMax2, to enable seamless communication between drivers and operations.
Hahn Transportation of New Market, N.J., is in the process of installing the MobileMax2 system, which transmits data messages, position reports, and other critical information, across its fleet of 172 trucks.
Aether said the wireless system will help Hahn improve the overall productivity and efficiency of its fleet, increase driver communication, and enhance the quality of its customer service.
The MobileMax2 data terminal transmits data messages and GPS position reports, and provides data on vehicle fault codes and driver performance. It also utilizes a dual-modem that automatically switches between terrestrial and satellite communication pathways without driver or dispatcher intervention.
The information provided by MobileMax2 allows companies to perform the following:
- Evaluate individual driver and vehicle performance
- Notify operations when a vehicle engine exceeds specified parameters
- Calculate the distance vehicles travel in each state
Based on the information gather, Hahn said it will develop cost-saving techniques such as managing drivers' downtime, reducing out-of-route miles, and minimizing fleet maintenance costs.

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: We
are encouraged to see Aether Systems get into transportation vertical
sector. There is still a significant potential out there. The core
fleet management application has been implemented by many systems
integrators - Qualcomm with its OmniTRACS, IBM with several large
fleet operators and many other solution providers. Aether's MobileMax2
does switch between satellite - only wireless communication
network on highways in many areas and terrestrial networks around
urban populations. This is a good feature. However, you need a
composite application - information about the vehicle's health,
driver's whereabouts and communication ability - all in one.
