DoCoMo Aligns with Oracle to
Target the Corporate Customer
NTT DoCoMo has joined forces
with Oracle Japan to develop and market mobile communications
products and services to corporate consumers.
By marrying DoCoMo’s 3G mobile service, dubbed FOMA, with
Oracle’s enterprise software, such as Oracle9i Application Server,
Oracle9i Lite and Oracle E-Business Suite, the companies hope to
offer advanced mobile services to help companies reduce operational
costs and improve efficiencies.
Masao Nakamura, a DoCoMo executive vice president, told Reuters
that he hoped to see services commercialized in about six months,
but said the scope and size of the business was not yet clear.
During the last year, the Japanese wireless carrier has forged
partnerships with German software maker SAP AG to develop services
for the corporate community and with IBM’s Lotus Software group to
develop multimedia applications.

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: This
is not an exclusive deal for Oracle. Nor should it be so. After all,
i-Mode must support all the major application servers, including IBM,
Oracle and BEA's WebLogic. Or to put it more directly, all the
application servers must support i-Mode.
