Playboy Readers May Soon Access
Adult Gaming via Mobile Phones
An icon of adult
entertainment Playboy Magazine may be offering its American readers
wireless gaming once it closes a deal with an undisclosed multimedia
firm.
According to chairperson and CEO Christie Hefner, "we are
very interested in this space. I had hoped to announce something
today [at the FT New Media and Broadcasting conference], but we
haven’t quite finished the deal."
Closing such a deal would expand Playboy’s new media strategy.
Recently, the company forged ties with Wireless Entertainment
Services, a Finnish-based company, to provide adult content over
mobile phones on pay-per-download basis.
Playboy is also talking with British mobile carrier Virgin Mobile
to offer soft-porn services to its UK mobile users.

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: Wireless
gaming is a relatively hot application area that will be among the first
set of consumer wireless applications that is expected to take off. We
agree with analysts' forecasts in this regard. Playboy is looking for
expanding its reach and breadth. This is a wonderful opportunity that
they can not pass. May we suggest that Playboy raise its moral standard
and offer some wholesome games for entertainment? Let pornography remain
where it belongs - in the closet, since we can not change natural human
frailties.
