Boingo Inks Deals to Expand its Wireless High-Speed Internet Service

Boingo Wireless, a provider of wireless LAN service, has signed deals with three OEMS and an ISP to promote its wireless service and software.

The company’s Wi-Fi network offers over 500 hotspots across the U.S. It’s Wi-Fi software includes a network sniffer and a profile manager to make it easy for users to move from one network to another.

Hewlett-Packard has agreed to provide Boingo’s high-speed wireless LAN service with its PC notebooks, while Agere Systems, known for its ORiNOCO line of WLAN products, has said it will distribute Boingo’s software with its ORiNOCO Gold and Silver Wi-Fi- cards. Boingo software will be integrated into the installation CD included with ORINOCO Wi-Fi- hardware.

The Orlando, FL, Boingo has also inked a deal with Nomadix, a provider of infrastructure software solutions, to introduce a turnkey solution targeted at any enterprise that has deployed a wireless LAN, from ISPs to systems integrators, to enable them to partake in a revenue sharing program with Boingo’s wireless network.

Nomadix’s Universal Subscriber Gateway (USG) has been configured with enhanced billing features to seamlessly integrate with Boingo’s accounting and authorization system. Since the functionality is delivered through a firmware update, existing USGs can also be upgraded to support the new set of features.

Wireless carrier GoAmerica has agreed to offer its enterprise customers access to Boingo’s Wi-FI Internet service.

"We are pleased to include the Boingo network in our launch of a combined WAN/LAN solution," said John Costello, senior vice president of strategic alliances for GoAmerica. "Boingo has done an excellent job aggregating multiple 802.11 service providers, giving users a single seamless network across the country. We believe they will be a valuable ally to us as we provide high-speed, hot-spot access to our corporate customers."

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: We wish Boingo good luck in making wireless WAN/LAN hybrid network concept a reality. We think that Boingo has got to change the mindset of the wireless operators who are now gradually seeing the wisdom of this concept - something that MobileInfo truly belives in and supports..
