Wireless Application Development
for Java Made Simple
Two Canadian companies,
Borland Software Corporation and RedKnee Inc., plan to integrate
their technology to make it easier for Java developers to create
advanced mobile applications such as messaging, location, presence
and billing capabilities.
Borland JBuilder, a Java development environment, will be
integrated with Redknee’s Open Services Architecture (OSA)
software based framework, OASIS.
While Borland JBuilder simplifies EJB 2.0 development with
two-way visual designers and rapid deployment to the leading J2EE
platform application servers, including BEA WebLogic and IBM
WebSphere, OASIS’ software based framework enables developers to
quickly introduce new services that generate new revenues for
carriers.
According to Duncan Ratcliffe, Redknee’s CEO, "the
integration of JBuilder Enterprise into OASIS simplifies wireless
application development and significantly enhances developers’
ability to develop next generation mobile applications."
Since both JBuilder and OASIS are open standards based
technologies, the integrated solution will enable third party
developers to create a variety of mobile applications to meet the
needs of telecom customers. Using standard open software
technologies also widens the market for applications and reduces the
cost to customers, the companies said.
