Koreans Give Wireless Video
Platform High Marks
Thin Multimedia said its
wireless video solution is receiving rave reviews from subscribers
with SK Telecom. The Korean wireless carrier has been offering Thin
Multimedia’s video applications such as video-on-demand and
video-mail over its CDMA 1xRTT network since July 2001.

- More than 350,000 handsets equipped with the video solution
have been sold, with sales between 10,000 to 20,000 handsets per
business day.
- Currently the system is used to download more than 2,400 video
clips per day, an increase of more than 170 percent in less than
a month.
- Thin Video Mail accounts for 14 percent of the video
downloads.
The company said another Korean operator, LG Telecom, is
launching a multimedia service using its platform and software this
month.
According to Dr. Chuck Yoo, founder and CEO of Thin Multimedia,
Koreans are not the only ones interested in multimedia services.
"While Korea is on the leading edge of mobile video services,
we are realizing significant traction in Europe and the U.S. and are
in active discussions with operators and handset manufacturers
around the world."
