2G Networks Deliver 3G Data Speeds
with ArrayComm Technology
ArrayComm Inc. said its
IntelliCell technology, a small antenna technology, played a
critical role in the recently launched high-speed data service from
Japan-based carrier DDI-Pocket Inc.
ArrayComm’s antenna technology has allowed DDI-Pocket’s
existing 2G network to double its transmission rate, delivering
speeds up to 128 kbps, without compromising the system’s
subscriber capacity and network coverage.
IntelliCell technology is currently deployed in Kyocera’s base
stations, enabling carriers like DDI-Pocket to offer subscribers
voice and data services that are comparable with those offered by 3G
carriers.
Benefits of IntelliCell Technology
- Delivers up to eight-times higher capacity to each base
station, enabling operators to offer better quality voice and
data services.
- Opens up new areas of revenue growth on existing networks for
operators.
- Fully compliant with PHS, W-CDMA, GSM and CDMA standards and
requires no change at the terminals or in the base
station-to-network interface.
- Integrates with any wireless interface, including
next-generation wide-area networks and wireless LANs.
Instead of broadcasting to many users like traditional cellular
systems, IntelliCell-equipped base stations create a ‘personal
cell’ for each user, which is dismantled when the call is
finished. These personal cells reduce interference, allow for wider
coverage, improve capacity, reduce costs and create clear signals.

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: We
have said before on our site that ArrayComm has got an interesting and
powerful technology. It is too bad that infrastructure players like
Nokia, Ericsson and others have not found a will and way to exploit this
technology in their own base station design. It is also dis-heartening
to see that there is a lack of interest from operators in North America
and Europe to utilize the network spectrum more efficiently. Technology
compatibility issues between ArrayComm's I-burst or IntelliCell and CDMA
or GSM can be solved provided there is recognition and desire to license
this technology. We are hopeful that its intelligent antennae technology
will find home in 3+ or 4G wireless networks.
