NTT DoCoMo Launches FOMA Mobile
Office
NTTDoCoMo has launched its
new mobile office system for its 3G network, FOMA.
The FOMA F2611 terminal serves as a mobile router and hub,
delivering high-speed wireless communications to up to four PC
users. Included is a Bluetooth-enabled handheld that communicates
with the terminal within a radius of seven meters. Users can expect
data transmission speeds of up to 384 kbps, for receiving and
sending.
The lack of broadband infrastructure and the high cost of call
charges in Japan make the system ideal for small businesses and
remote offices where wired-line communications are unavailable.
The standard set includes the terminal, one wireless handheld, AC
adapter, battery pack and wall-mount kit. DoCoMo is making the set
available through its corporate sales teams and affiliate shops.

MobileInfo.com’s Comments & Advisory: This
router from NTT DoCoMo is a fairly similar to wireless routers that
are selling like hot cakes for 802.11b-compatible LANs. In case of
DoCoMo's router, connectivity support is for Bluetooth-enabled
handhelds within 7 meters. In our judgement, it has limited
functionality as compared to its competition.
