Adobe Announces GoLive -
Visual Authoring Tool for Wireless Web
Nokia Developer's Suite for MMS and
Adobe GoLive 6.0 Extend Toolset for Wireless Authoring
Adobe Systems Incorporated, recently announced a new wireless authoring module for
Adobe® GoLive® 6.0 that enables designers and developers to easily
create and adapt visually engaging Web content for Nokia mobile
phones. Developed by Nokia and supporting the Symbian operating
system, it is the first visual authoring application for Multimedia
Messaging Service (MMS) wireless technology.
Demonstrated at the Symbian Developer
Expo in London this week, the Nokia Developer's Suite for MMS extends
the powerful wireless authoring capabilities within GoLive. Developers
can create services that can now include audio, images, and video with
text, transforming messages into rich media experiences.
"My clients expect us to create
compelling content that leverages MMS to its fullest potential,"
said Tim Nilson, president and CTO of Run Media, which develops and
manages wireless entertainment portals for major media companies and
carriers. "GoLive, in conjunction with the Nokia Developer's
Suite for MMS, streamlines the content production process by allowing
us to visually author SMIL content and MMS message components, as well
as prepare messages for over-the-air delivery. The ability to preview
content in GoLive saves us time and money, and ensures that my
clients' messages and brand identities are consistent across all
mediums."
"The merging of rich media and
wireless devices is a vital component of Nokia's strategy, and new
standards such as MMS mean mobile users will have access to
increasingly richer personalized content regardless of time and
place," said Jouko Hayrynen, vice president, Forum Nokia.
"Now, with Adobe GoLive and the Nokia Developer's suite for MMS,
developers and content creators will be able to generate wireless
content as a natural part of the service creation cycle."
Adobe entered the mobile market with
the introduction of the Acrobat® Reader® for Palm OS® and Pocket
PC. Adobe GoLive 6.0 is a key part of the content creation process for
the Web and wireless devices, and is integrated with Acrobat, After
Effects®, Illustrator®, InDesign®, LiveMotion™, Photoshop® 7.0,
and Adobe Premiere®.
Nokia Developer's Suite for MMS is
available for Adobe GoLive 6.0 at no cost by downloading from www.forum.nokia.com.

MobileInfo.com’s Comments & Advisory: Adobe does
have extensive expertise in allowing development of universal content
for graphically-rich presentations. Therefore, on the surface, MMS
does lend itself to Adobe's GoLive's potential. Our major concern is
the efficiency of using GoLive for creating MMS content. You need a
tool that is nimble and highly bandwidth efficient. If pdf and eps
file sizes are indicators of GoLive file sizes, it will be very
expensive to send these files across a wireless network. Therefore, we
would caution developers to invest time in optimization rather than
creating content in a hurry that nobody can afford to pay for. In
fact, our assessment is that it will not be the lack of development
tools that will come in the way of MMS deployment. It will be cost of
transportation of MMS traffic.
