RIM & BEA to Accelerate Enterprise Web Services for the
BlackBerry
Research In Motion, renowned
for its BlackBerry handheld, has entered into a partnership with
developer of infrastructure software BEA Systems to develop a tool
for programmers to build enterprise Web-based software and services
for BlackBerry devices.
The two companies will develop a simple and flexible framework
for developing and deploying mobile Web Services on BEA WebLogic
Enterprise Platform. The integrated framework will work with BEA
WebLogic Workshop that incorporates the tools for building Web
Services, enabling programmers to extend existing enterprise
software to the BlackBerry.
The combination of BEA WebLogic Workshop, which will be released
this summer, and BlackBerry architecture will enable enterprise and
application developers to work on the same code base and collaborate
on the same development projects — standardizing on a single,
unified architecture, the companies said.
The BEA/RIM solution will, for example, allow corporate employees
using the company’s CRM software to access customer support or
sales information on their BlackBerry devices, Byron Sebastian, BEA’s
senior director of product management, told CNET.

platform.
