American & Europeans Think the Same about Wireless,
says SmartServ Study
Thinking that there would be a divergence of opinion between American and European executives on enterprise wireless technology, SmartServ, an American company that builds applications for financial institutions, decided to gather data from two recent large industry trade shows, one held in the U.S. and the other in Europe.
Data was compiled from polls conducted at both the 3GSM World Congress, held in Cannes, France, and the CTIA, in Orlando, Florida, which showed a stronger congruence of opinion between Americans and Europeans than expected.
Overview of Findings
- When asked whether they plan to purchase wireless data services, 61 percent of the European and 72 percent of American respondents said they either already had purchased, or are planning to purchase within six months.
- When questioned about how carriers should price wireless services, 51 percent of Americans preferred flat fee pricing, 15 percent selected pay-per-use, and 15 percent picked bundled with voice. Their European counterparts also chose flat fee pricing by a wide margin at 41 percent, with pay-per-use coming in at 26 percent, and bundled with voice at 15 percent.
- Asked to pick their preferred wireless device, 70 percent of Americans chose the mobile phone versus 51 percent of Europeans. Only 6 percent of Americans chose a PDA, in contrast to 35 percent of Europeans.
- The majority of Europeans (61 percent) and nearly half of the American participants (49 percent) agreed that having access to wireless data would increase their productivity.
