Handspring has expanded its Treo product line to include a new
communicator the Treo 270 as well as the first organizer the Treo 90.
Treo 90
The Treo 90 is a PDA with a built-in keyboard and full color
display. The organizer comes with 16 MB of memory, Secure Digital and
MultiMediaCard expansion capabilities and rechargeable battery.
Currently the device is only available in the U.S., but in the months
to come it will be shipped to Canada, Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore,
Taiwan, Malaysia and Korea, the company said.
Treo 270
Featuring all the capabilities of the Treo 180, this compact,
wireless communicator also has a full-color display, built-in, backlit
QWERTY keyboard and enhanced battery performance, with up to three
hours of talk time and 150 hours of standby time.
"While Treo 270’s bright color display adds richness to
color applications like Internet browsing and games, it also
significantly improves text-based applications like e-mail because of
its enhanced readability," said Joe Sipher, vice president of
product marketing at Handspring.
Like its predecessor, the Treo 270 is an all-in-one device,
incorporating a mobile phone and a Palm OS organizer, capable of
sending and receiving SMS text messages and e-mail. Users can take
advantage of Treo Mail, a new wireless e-mail service that Handspring
introduced last month. The service was designed for Treo
communicators, giving users secure access to corporate e-mail or POP3
Internet accounts.
In addition, the device includes a new version of the Blazer Web
browser that allows one-handed navigation of Web links and pages with
the rocker switch and enables in-line editing.
Currently, the Treo 270 operates over GSM networks, but Handspring
has promised a software update for GPRS connectivity later this year.
There are also plans to develop a CDMA version for the Treo for Sprint’s
3G network.
