iAnywhere Solutions Out to
Simplify the Creation of Handheld Apps
iAnywhere Solutions, a
subsidiary of Sybase, Inc., has announced a beta program for its new
UltraLite Component Suite.
The UltraLite Component Suite supports a broad range of
development environments for the creation of handheld database
applications that leverage the SQL Anywhere Studio UltraLite
deployment technology.
The UltraLite Component Suite supports the following development
tools:
- AppForge
- The Insignia Jeode Java VM
- Microsoft Visual Basic
- Microsoft eMbedded Visual Basic
"The UltraLite Component Suite opens handheld application
development to an entirely new group of developers who can now
leverage the product’s sophisticated data management and
synchronization capabilities," said Mike Paola, group product
manager, iAnywhere Solutions.
iAnywhere’s UltraLite Component Suite includes the following
elements:
- AppForge control is used with the AppForge add-in to Visual
Basic. Developers use AppForge to create cross-platform
applications for use on devices running the Palm OS, PocketPC or
Symbian operating system.
- ActiveX control is used with eMbedded Visual Basic. ActiveX
controls are small, fast, powerful, and reusable software
components, making them ideal for use in PocketPC-based
applications.
- Java class library is developed for the Insignia Jeode Java VM
running on PocketPC. This library uses the Java Native Interface
to combine the ease-of-development of Java with the performance
of a native library.
