Real Estate Agents Praise Wireless
Solution
Residential realtor Edina
Realty, a division of HomeServices of America, has provided over
2,000 agents across the Midwest United States with wireless access
to its multiple listing service (MLS) database.
Using a Kyocera Web-enabled phone, agents can access Edina’s
MLS, which provides all the listings for available homes, including
dynamic information like pricing and status of a sale.
Patti Stewart, Edina’s systems integration manager, told Forbes
that the company started a year ago to look for ways to give its
agents, who are independent contractors, an edge in the filed.
"Having MLS access in the field impacts the bottom line and
market share the most. It’s a killer app," Stewart said.
The database and application run on Edina’s Web servers, from
which agents can dial in to retrieve real-time data.
In January, Edina began making the application, along with phones
and service from Verizon Wireless, available to its agents, who pay
a monthly discounted service fee of $150 for 2,000 minutes.
Commenting on the benefits of the mobile MLS application, Scott
Card, an Edina agent for ten years, said, "I’m definitely
closing more deals because the pace of play is increasing. I’m
doing more important things like showing property, writing purchase
agreements, going to closings and prospecting."

is a wireless application whose time has come. With current suite of
wireless-based real estate solutions, you can get the most current
information from MLS database anywhere. Real-estate sale is highly dependent
on how quickly an agent can answer all the questions that the buyer has,
instead of going back to the office to go through the most current listings.
You can shortlist the houses that you want to show right where you are.
Business case is easy.
